I hate this time of year.
Oh and “hi”. I haven’t been blogging because I’ve been too busy complaining about the crap that is February.
The holidays are long over, the excitement of the new year is gone (because really, the new year makes me tingle. with joy. really.) and all that’s left is dirty brown snow with at least six more weeks of the same.
Yes, Wisconsin has had an amazing winter as far as winters go. Very little snow, balmy temperatures in the mid 40′s, but still! It gets dark at 5:00pm, and having friends over for a BBQ doesn’t have much charm when your grill is stored away and your deck is covered in ice.
What I’m trying to say is like clock work, I’m losing my ever loving mind! Diagnosis, cabin fever.
I recently realized that not only is winter holding me like a straight jacket but Matt and I haven’t had any time away together since JULY! And that was camping. Which, if you’re sleeping with bugs and bears, doesn’t count.
In an effort to not put my car in drive, head south without stopping until someone says “hi” to me in Spanish, I made plans. LOTS of plans.
This weekend Matt and I are getting away. Granted it’s just to Milwaukee but right now Milwaukee is looking like Venice. With less water and more beer.
Two beautiful days of no plans, no kid, no laundry and sweet baby pickles, NO DOG! I asked the kennel just how early they open Saturday morning. 6:30 am? We’ll leave our house at 6.
I also happened to book a trip to Vegas with my bestie and conveniently cousin Amy for late March. You see I’m turning 40 quite soon and therefore sun, a desert, cocktails, casinos, pools and lots of lights are in order.
And when all that wasn’t enough, last Saturday I made Matt buy this.
Oh yes my friends, it’s a hibiscus. A tropical plant that is now in our happy home.
Not just a hibiscus plant… oh no. The Fever made me decide we neededmusthavecan’tlivewithout, the world’s largest hibiscus tree.
Just like our dog (and my ass) we grow ‘em big here at the Mikkimoto farm.
This giant didn’t look that big in the nursery. It looked normal house tree size. (shut up. that’s a real size.) However when one walks through one’s kitchen, one has a tendency to stop in one’s tracks and whisper, “big tree.”
Between my own personal Arbor Day, a weekend away and a trip to Sin City, I just might make it through this winter.
If not there’s another corner in my living room where a seven foot cactus would be lovely.

Oh my god, you’re so funny and YES to whatever works for Winter in Wisconsin, which can be about two months too long.
This is hilarious. And what is comedy but a shared thought spoken aloud.
Signed, other house tree owner in Wisconsin.
Awww, the things we resort to in our attempt to survive long winters! That said, I’m going tree shopping!!!
